Ahrend transformed its Rotterdam showroom into innovative architects plaza

December 20, 2017 5:24 pm | Door Ahrend

Nothing is quite as fickle as the interior of a showroom! No matter how timeless the furniture, a showroom has to look topical at all times. At the start of this year, we realised that the Rotterdam premises no longer suited the target group, that it was no longer in line with today’s development and, therefore, had lost its efficiency.

Time for a new concept! On the one hand, we wanted architects to use the space better and to provide access to all materials available. On the other, this space had to facilitate the presentation of new innovations and to convey new formats in a dynamic working showroom. A space where it’s possible to elaborate and present creative ideas as well as a pleasant environment that encourages people to connect.

Floor-plan(concept) made by the Ahrend Studio

Our own interior designers of the Ahrend Studio – Bastiënne Merks and Alisa Heesakkers – were asked to come up with a plan of action and a suitable concept. Important points for attention were the connection between the various floors, increasing the number of meeting rooms and creating a sense of intimacy on the work floor.

Conclusion: a dynamic and trendy hub that encourages people to work together and that has an up-to-date collection of colours and materials. Thanks to collaborations with prominent partners (such as Lighting, Interface, Vescom and Kvadrat), this collection is now available in its fully updated version.

The Ahrend Flexbox, to seperate spaces and to work in privacy

And I think it’s safe to say we did it! The use of partitions in various places has created privacy and a pleasant working environment for which we used the Ahrend Flexbox and plants, for instance. Furthermore, a black runner has been laid throughout the building (for contrast purposes), creating tension between the various areas and atmospheres and also visually connecting all floors.

Design Hub Rotterdam before and after

On the ground floor, there is a welcoming reception area with atmospheric lighting where you can enjoy a hot cup of coffee served by Kora from Rotterdam. You’ll feel at home right away! Apart from design classics such as Friso Kramer’s Revolt, there is enough material here to take you back in time. Stories and heritage in abundance!

On the first floor, we run a spacious materials library with numerous fabric samples from Desso and Kvadrat, among others. There are so many more possibilities available than you’d think! The library presents the various possibilities outside the standard range with a fantastic range of colours and materials. Also, everyone can enjoy a healthy lunch at a large and inviting table where plants and botanical prints fill up the rest of the space.

One step up and you’ll find various formats such as ‘landing’, ‘concentration’ and ‘scrum’. We can rightfully say that the revamped Design Hub in Rotterdam is a valuable addition to Ahrend and its clients. Please drop by to experience it yourself! For an appointment, contact us via info@designhubrotterdam.nl. We are open from Monday till Friday between 8.30 and 17.00.
